Arkansas residents can now use their Mobile ID at Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints across more than 260 airports nationwide, following successful testing between the state and TSA. The Mobile ID program, launched in March 2025 in partnership with IDEMIA Public Security North America, provides a digital alternative to physical identification documents for air travel.
The Arkansas Mobile ID functions as a digital version of a state driver’s license or identification card, stored securely on smartphones. The system complies with the ISO 18013-5 standard for mobile driving licenses, ensuring interoperability and security across different platforms and jurisdictions. Arkansas residents who possess a valid state license or ID can download the “Arkansas Mobile ID” app at no cost through both the App Store and Google Play. The digital credential will expand its availability to Google and Samsung wallets in early Fall 2025, with Apple Wallet integration planned for a future release, following the path of other states like Iowa that have implemented multi-wallet support.
A key feature of the Mobile ID system is its ability to automatically verify if a traveler has a valid ticket for same-day travel, streamlining the TSA checkpoint process by eliminating the need for separate boarding pass verification. The integration is part of the TSA’s broader $5.5 billion modernization initiative to enhance security screening through digital technologies and biometrics.
“Using Mobile ID to board a flight will make travel easier for citizens,” said Jim Hudson, Secretary of the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration. “We encourage Arkansans who have not obtained their Mobile ID to take advantage of this innovative, free tool.”
The adoption rate of the Mobile ID program has reached over 30,000 Arkansas residents as of August 2025, contributing to a growing national trend. Industry projections suggest that mobile driver’s license users across the United States will reach 143 million by 2030, driven by REAL ID requirements and increasing digital wallet adoption.
