Authsignal Brings Passkey Orchestration to IATA's Travel Identity Program

Authsignal, the Auckland-based authentication company that executed the first passkey rollout by an airline globally, has joined the International Air Transport Association’s Strategic Partnership Program, bringing its mobile-first identity stack into the orbit of IATA’s One ID initiative for document-free travel.

The company joined under the Data and Technology Proof of Concept area, the participation track IATA requires for non-airline technology vendors who want to contribute to the association’s innovation cycles. Authsignal’s platform is built as an orchestration layer that sits above an airline’s existing identity infrastructure, allowing carriers to add passkeys, adaptive multi-factor authentication, biometric step-up verification, and risk-based authentication without replacing core systems. Its no-code rules engine lets non-technical teams configure authentication and security policies independently.

The passkey credential is central to Authsignal’s aviation offer. The company’s prior work with Air New Zealand, described as the first airline passkey deployment anywhere in the world, achieved a customer opt-in rate above 30 percent within four months and produced a 5 to 10 percent reduction in customer service center call volume. For IATA and the airlines participating in One ID, that deployment history represents a real-world data point for mobile-based credential adoption at scale in aviation.

Authsignal’s Digital Credential Verification API extends that passkey foundation into the broader mobile wallet ecosystem. The API is wallet-agnostic, supporting Apple Wallet, Google Wallet, and government-issued digital wallets, and performs live face-match biometric binding alongside selective disclosure of credential fields. Those capabilities align with the technical stack underpinning IATA’s One ID: W3C Verifiable Credentials, Decentralized Identifiers, and OpenID for Verifiable Credentials.

The IATA partnership announcement came days after IATA published proof-of-concept results at its World Data Symposium in Singapore, demonstrating that biometric digital identity is interoperable across international carriers including Japan Airlines, Air New Zealand, and IndiGo, using Apple Wallet, Google Wallet, and Digi Yatra. Authsignal was not named in that April 8 release, and the company’s SPP entry appears forward-looking, with IATA’s Cycle 3 themes expected in June 2026.

“Digital identity is fundamental to a myriad of real use cases across the industry, from booking to boarding to immigration,” said Justin Soong, Founder and Director of Product at Authsignal. Kim Macaulay, IATA’s Chief Information and Data Officer, said the addition confirms the value the Strategic Partnership Program provides to the industry.
