BioCatch has launched DeviceIQ, a device identification and intelligence product for digital banking that assesses device trustworthiness before a user reaches the login or biometric authentication stage.
The product targets fraud techniques that undermine traditional device checks, including emulators, spoofed devices, cloaked browsers, jailbroken handsets and data-wiping tactics used to make repeat attacks appear new. DeviceIQ establishes a persistent device identity across web and mobile banking channels, distinguishes genuine device upgrades and app reinstalls from suspicious behavior, and flags devices that appear compromised or deliberately masked.
Beyond classic device fingerprinting, BioCatch said DeviceIQ draws on signals across its broader platform so banks can identify whether a device has appeared in mule activity, scams or account-takeover attempts. The product adds a layer called DeviceIQ ai, which classifies sessions as human-led, human-agent hybrid, genuine agentic AI activity, or fraudulent agentic sessions. The tool also flags potential deepfakes by detecting virtual cameras and prerecorded audio, video or images used to defeat authentication flows.
The framing shifts device intelligence from a background risk signal into a core part of mobile identity assurance, one that operates before the user even reaches an authentication screen. As digital banking moves toward greater automation and app-based authentication, the ability to verify the device alongside the user becomes a meaningful part of the trust decision.
BioCatch said one large U.S. financial institution using DeviceIQ recognized nearly 60 percent of genuine device upgrades in the first two weeks of deployment with no fraud allowed in those transfers. Bad devices detected by DeviceIQ were nearly 13 times more likely than good devices to have evaded the bank’s previous device-focused defenses.
