Password manager Dashlane has launched a new passwordless login feature that enables users to access their credential vault without creating or remembering a master password, marking a significant advancement in the company’s ongoing push toward passwordless authentication. The platform-agnostic solution works across multiple devices and operating systems, supporting the growing industry momentum toward eliminating traditional passwords.

The passwordless system integrates with Yubico’s YubiKeys – hardware authenticators that support various authentication protocols including FIDO2/WebAuthn, U2F, and Smart Card (PIV). Users can register multiple YubiKeys with their Dashlane account, providing backup access options if a primary key is lost or damaged. The integration follows Yubico’s introduction of biometric security keys and its recent expansion of services to 175 countries.

The system is designed to be phishing-resistant, offering protection against sophisticated cyber threats including AI-driven phishing campaigns. Users can access their Dashlane vault securely using device-bound passkeys instead of a traditional master password. The approach follows recent recommendations from federal security agencies advocating for phishing-resistant authentication methods.

“Achieving a phishing-resistant, passwordless future is dependent on whether our industry can make security and passkey authentication accessible and easy to use for everyone,” said Sheryl Chamberlain, Senior Vice President of Business Development at Yubico. “Both Yubico and Dashlane have a deep history of security innovation in service of making the internet more secure, and are at the forefront of reaching the next horizon using passkeys for both authentication and encryption.”

The implementation includes confidential computing protection for passkey storage and supports credential exchange functionality for iOS, allowing users to import and export passwords and passkeys securely. The development comes as major technology companies like Google and Microsoft are also transitioning their authentication systems to passkey-based solutions, indicating a broader industry shift toward passwordless security standards.
