Mastercard has partnered with NCR Atleos and ITCARD to implement new contactless ATM technology that enables secure cash withdrawals and ATM services using mobile phones, without requiring physical cards or PIN entry. The solution uses Consumer Device Cardholder Verification Method (CDCVM) technology, allowing users to authenticate biometrically on their mobile devices before tapping the ATM. The development expands upon Mastercard’s expanding portfolio of biometric payment solutions, which has seen significant growth in recent years.
The technology has been piloted on NCR Atleos’ DN Series 450V cash recycler running Microsoft Windows 11, with services delivered in partnership with BS/2 in Central Asia. The platform’s modern APIs facilitate integration with digital channels to provide a unified customer experience. The implementation marks a significant advancement in Mastercard’s digital identity initiatives, which have previously included collaborations with major technology providers.
Initial deployments of these contactless ATMs have occurred across several European countries, including Poland, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, and Austria. The Polish pilot program serves as a foundation for a broader implementation planned for 2026, coinciding with the launch of the European Union’s Digital Identity Wallet initiative, which will also integrate Mastercard’s services.
Testing conducted by Mastercard in July 2025 demonstrated that CDCVM-enabled ATM transactions are approximately 20 percent faster than traditional PIN-based withdrawals. The system moves cardholder verification entirely to the mobile device, using existing biometric authentication methods such as fingerprint or facial recognition. The approach matches the growing demand for contactless and biometric payment solutions, which has accelerated since the COVID-19 pandemic.
The implementation runs on NCR Atleos’ DN Series 450V cash recycler platform, which supports long-term stability and regulatory compliance. The technological framework enables seamless integration with various digital channels, creating a cohesive customer experience across different banking touchpoints. The solution builds upon EMVCo’s CDCVM security requirements, ensuring robust protection for cardless transactions.
The initiative reflects Mastercard’s broader strategy to expand its digital offerings and enhance customer experience through technological innovation and strategic partnerships. The company continues to invest in value-added services and digital security solutions to maintain its position in the payments and financial technology sector, as demonstrated by its recent launch of biometric Payment Passkey services in Latin America.
