OCR Studio is introducing an on-device age verification system designed to detect date-of-birth manipulation on identity documents while keeping the verification process on the user’s own device.
The system is being presented at GITEX AI Europe and is aimed at a specific fraud problem in age assurance: document collages. In that attack, a fraudster alters only a small field on an otherwise genuine-looking identity document, such as the date of birth, while leaving the rest of the document visually intact.
OCR Studio’s approach analyzes the document image for local anomalies and broader visual consistency rather than simply reading a date-of-birth field. The system detects signs of tampering, extracts the date of birth from the document, and calculates whether the user meets the required age threshold.
The company says the entire process runs locally on a smartphone, tablet, or computer and does not require an internet connection. Document images and personal data are not transmitted to external servers, cloud platforms, or crowdsourcing services, an architecture aimed at businesses that want age checks without creating new repositories of sensitive identity data.
The product arrives as regulators and platforms are moving toward more concrete age assurance obligations. The EU is preparing a smartphone-based age verification app, while Apple has already rolled out age verification tools for UK iPhone users. OCR Studio’s system fits into that same shift, but with emphasis on local processing and document-tamper detection rather than a centralized age credential.
For mobile users, the model could reduce the amount of personal data sent off-device during age checks. For service providers, it offers a way to combine document authentication and age calculation in one workflow for regulated content, commerce, or other age-restricted services.
