Samsung Electronics has announced plans to expand its digital key service to Mercedes-Benz vehicles beginning in July 2025, enabling Galaxy smartphone users to lock, unlock, and start their Mercedes-Benz vehicles using their mobile devices. The expansion follows Samsung’s existing digital car key implementations, which first launched with Genesis vehicles in 2021.
The integration will be compatible with a wide range of Samsung Galaxy devices, including the Galaxy S21 Ultra/S21+, S22 Ultra/S22+, S23 Ultra/S23+, S24 Ultra/S24+, S25 Ultra/S25+, S25 Edge, Z Fold3, Z Fold4, Z Fold5, Z Fold6, and Z Fold Special Edition.
The digital key functionality will operate through Samsung Wallet, the company’s comprehensive platform for managing digital keys, payments, identification cards, and other digital credentials. The system uses Samsung Knox, the company’s government-grade security platform, to ensure secure transactions and protect user data. Samsung Wallet has recently expanded its capabilities beyond vehicle access, now supporting mobile driver’s licenses in several U.S. states and digital banking integration.
“We’re excited to bring Mercedes-Benz drivers the incredible convenience that comes with Samsung Digital Key access,” said Woncheol Chai, EVP and Head of the Digital Wallet Team at Samsung Electronics. “Our collaboration with Mercedes-Benz advances our vision of providing effortless access to tech-enabled experiences across the Galaxy ecosystem.”
“Bringing convenience and luxury to our customers is our top priority as we strive to bring them the best vehicle experience possible,” said Stefan Blossey, Director of Body-/Comfort-E/E, UX Components at Mercedes-Benz AG. “Samsung Digital Key allows Mercedes-Benz to continue offering our customers convenient access and connectivity to their vehicles.”
The partnership marks a significant expansion of Samsung’s digital key ecosystem, which has been steadily growing as part of the company’s broader strategy to enhance mobile device functionality and security. The technology allows users to securely share digital keys with family members and friends, while maintaining detailed access controls and usage permissions through the Samsung Wallet platform.
