Global cybersecurity company WISeKey has announced the expansion of its digital identity solutions from Seychelles to additional African nations, aiming to implement secure national ID systems across the continent. The expansion supports the United Nations’ ID2020 program objectives, building on WISeKey’s established track record in developing decentralized identification systems.
Announced on April 23, 2025, the expansion builds upon WISeKey’s successful digital identity infrastructure deployment in Seychelles. The company’s WISeID platform incorporates advanced features including biometric authentication, self-sovereign identity capabilities, and post-quantum cryptographic protocols. The implementation follows WISeKey’s earlier development of its WISeID authentication system, which has evolved to include sophisticated identity verification mechanisms.
At the heart of this expansion is WISeKey’s SEALCOIN transactional IoT platform, which integrates blockchain technology to enable secure Web 3.0 transactions. The platform incorporates Distributed Identity capabilities through the WISeD system, designed to provide scalable solutions for trusted digital interactions. The development comes as Web 3.0 platforms increasingly adopt sophisticated identity verification measures to enhance security and user trust.
The initiative matches WISeKey’s broader 2025 strategic vision, which focuses on the convergence of four technological pillars: semiconductors, satellites, blockchain, and digital identity. “These elements are being integrated into unified and interoperable ecosystems,” said WISeKey CEO Carlos Moreira. The strategy builds upon the company’s previous initiatives in artificial intelligence and IoT security.
Alongside the African expansion, WISeKey is developing the SEALPhone, an ultra-secure smartphone featuring privacy-by-design architecture. The device integrates both WISeID and SEALCOIN technologies, providing secure communication capabilities, identity protection, and digital asset storage within a single hardware platform. The development arrives at a crucial time when data breaches in Africa have highlighted the need for enhanced mobile security solutions.
