Yubico has appointed chief operating officer Jerrod Chong as acting CEO following the departure of Mattias Danielsson from the top role, according to a company press release dated December 16, 2025.

The company says Danielsson will remain available to support the transition for the next six months, while Chong takes on day-to-day leadership responsibilities. Yubico positioned the change as an orderly handover intended to maintain continuity as demand grows for phishing-resistant authentication and standards-based passkeys.

Board chair Patrik Tigerschiöld pointed to Chong’s 12 years in senior leadership at Yubico and his broader cybersecurity background as factors supporting the board’s decision. Chong, in turn, emphasized ongoing focus on customers and partners and continued work around hardware security keys and passkey adoption.

Yubico did not provide a timeline for naming a permanent CEO in the release. The company’s messaging focused on stability during the transition and ongoing execution on its authentication roadmap.
