Coinbase has expanded its payment options by integrating Samsung Pay into its cryptocurrency platform, launching initially for users in the United States and Canada. The integration enables Coinbase users to purchase cryptocurrency directly through Samsung Pay within the Coinbase app, eliminating the need to switch between applications or re-enter payment information. The addition strengthens Coinbase’s ongoing efforts to enhance its identity verification and security measures while simplifying the user experience.

The integration rollout began in late July 2025, with a phased approach targeting select users before expanding to full availability. Coinbase has indicated plans to extend this functionality to additional markets beyond North America in subsequent phases. The platform uses Samsung’s Knox security framework, which provides hardware-level protection for sensitive payment data.

Samsung Pay, which serves approximately 150 million users globally, joins Coinbase’s existing payment method roster alongside bank accounts, debit and credit cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay. The integration combines Samsung Pay’s mobile wallet infrastructure with Coinbase’s cryptocurrency trading platform to create a more streamlined transaction process. Samsung Pay’s security features include tokenization and biometric authentication, adding additional layers of protection for cryptocurrency transactions.

“Starting this week, Coinbase users in North America can now use Samsung Pay directly in the Coinbase app to fund their crypto journey,” Coinbase announced. The platform uses Samsung Pay’s tap-to-pay functionality to facilitate cryptocurrency purchases, while maintaining compliance with Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements that are standard in the cryptocurrency industry.

The integration delivers several key features for North American users, including direct cryptocurrency purchases within the Coinbase application using Samsung Pay, streamlined payment processing without additional authentication steps, and access to Samsung Pay’s established user base. The development represents another step in the evolution of mobile cryptocurrency transactions, as major financial platforms continue to integrate with digital payment systems. The partnership also demonstrates the growing trend toward enhanced security measures in digital payments, with both companies maintaining strict authentication standards to protect against emerging threats in mobile payments.
