Fime Opens Melbourne Software Security Lab to Support PCI MPoC Testing

Fime has opened a new software security laboratory in Melbourne, expanding its capacity to test and support certification of solutions under PCI Mobile Payments on COTS (MPoC) as SoftPOS deployments grow. The company says the lab will specialize in software security testing for MPoC and broaden its ability to support providers across the certification lifecycle, from pre-assessment and evaluation through delta testing, annual checkpoints, and revalidation.

SoftPOS enables NFC-enabled mobile devices to accept payments without dedicated point-of-sale hardware, shifting more of the trust and security burden into software controls and the assurance processes that validate them. Fime positions the Melbourne lab as part of a broader expansion into software security services intended to reduce integration risk and shorten time to certification for payment acceptance solutions.

The Melbourne move follows Fime’s continued investment in expanding its testing footprint and services. The company has previously opened additional testing capacity in other regions, including an EMV testing laboratory in India, aimed at supporting payment ecosystem deployments that require formal validation against industry specifications.

Fime has also sought to strengthen its consulting and assurance capabilities through corporate expansion. Its acquisition of Consult Hyperion added strategic and technical consulting depth alongside its existing testing services, reflecting a push to combine advisory work with practical certification support as mobile-based payments and identity use cases converge.

In parallel, certification and assurance roles are taking on more weight across regulated digital ecosystems, where compliance requirements can determine market access. Fime’s work in this area has included certification activity outside of payments as well, such as being named an approved Sahamati certifier in India, underscoring its broader positioning around trust infrastructure for digital services.

Fime says the Melbourne lab will add software security expertise to its existing functional testing capabilities, providing end-to-end support for MPoC and SoftPOS implementations. As mobile devices take on more roles in payment acceptance and other trusted transactions, certification capacity and security testing depth are increasingly central to the mobile commerce stack.
