Jordan’s Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship has updated its government services app Sanad to allow users to activate a digital identity directly in the app, removing the requirement to complete activation in person at Sanad service stations.
Petra News Agency reports the ministry is positioning the change as a usability and modernization step, aimed at reducing friction in onboarding for online government services.
The update also expands Sanad’s transactional flow. Officials say users can now complete services end-to-end inside the app, including payments, without being redirected to external systems or generating separate payment reference numbers. Apple Pay and Google Pay are now supported alongside existing payment options.
In addition, the latest version displays official digital documents, including national ID cards, driver’s licenses, and vehicle registration information, as part of the app’s broader role as a single channel for public services.
The ministry reported approximately 1.3 million monthly users, more than 2 million activated digital identities, and close to 6 million monthly interactions or transactions through Sanad. Officials also said more than 2,000 electronic payment transactions were completed through the app in the five days following the update.
