The Commonwealth Bank of Australia has unveiled a new CommBiz Mobile platform, bringing enhanced digital banking capabilities to corporate and institutional customers across Australia. The August 2025 launch extends the bank’s award-winning retail app experience to business users, enabling mobile access to traditionally desktop-bound banking functions. The development comes amid growing security challenges in mobile banking, with malware attacks affecting hundreds of thousands of users globally in 2024.

The updated platform introduces several key features, including the ability to make transfers and authorize payments directly through the mobile app, real-time balance and transaction visibility, and streamlined authentication via quick PIN login. The platform’s development incorporated feedback from thousands of business customers nationwide to ensure alignment with user needs. These security features build upon CommBank’s recent partnership with Telstra to enhance fraud detection and prevention capabilities in Australia’s banking sector.

“We’re seeing corporates increasingly using mobile devices for banking, a task once limited to desktops,” said Kim Hughes, General Manager of Digital & Transformation at CommBank. “So, we’re bringing the best of retail digital design to our institutional and corporate customers to allow them to seamlessly review, transact and approve on their mobile device. With $4 trillion in payments now going through the CommBiz platform in FY25, many of our customers are looking forward to our new mobile features.”

The platform currently serves 265,000 active users and receives 2 million homepage views monthly. In FY25, it processed $4 trillion in payment value, representing a 5.6 percent increase from the previous fiscal year. Future enhancements to the platform will include additional features and the development of AI-driven capabilities, following broader industry trends toward enhanced authentication measures for corporate banking.

“This latest update isn’t just about a new interface – it’s about improving how businesses can interact with their finances,” Hughes noted. “We’ll continue to add new features to the app, with the ambition to deliver a leading AI driven app for our corporate customers.”

The platform’s launch is part of CommBank’s broader technology modernization initiatives, which encompass fraud prevention, cybersecurity enhancement, and financial crime prevention, while focusing on improved customer experience and operational efficiency. The development comes as the Australian Banking Association pushes for modernized payment system regulations, highlighting the increasing importance of secure digital banking infrastructure.
