Deutsche Telekom has introduced Magenta Security Mobile.ID, a platform that turns a smartphone into a unified enterprise credential, positioning the device as a single place to hold employee IDs, certificates and cryptographic keys for access and secure workflows.
The concept is straightforward: rather than carrying a stack of physical badges, smart cards and keys, employees use a mobile credential for door access, workstation login and encrypted communications. Deutsche Telekom says Mobile.ID can be used to open office doors, sign into laptops and encrypt emails, relying on NFC and Bluetooth for proximity-based use.
On Samsung devices, the company said sensitive material such as keys, certificates and IDs can be stored on the phone’s built-in secure element, a hardware-isolated component designed to protect secrets even if the broader operating system is compromised. Deutsche Telekom also indicated it expects to add more partners beyond the initial Samsung collaboration.
Deutsche Telekom framed the product as a digital trust and sovereignty play for Europe. Thomas Tschersich, the company’s chief security officer, said the service is designed to be data-sovereign and to work over Bluetooth or NFC without relying on continuous connectivity.
Testing is expected to begin in spring 2026, starting with Deutsche Telekom employees. The company said the service will be available to European enterprise customers from summer 2026, beginning in the DACH region: Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Deutsche Telekom also suggested the platform could expand into authenticity features, including a watermarking function for photos and video created on enrolled phones, intended to help prevent media from being repurposed for deepfakes.
The launch adds to Deutsche Telekom’s broader digital identity footprint, which includes work on age assurance components for the EU Digital Identity Wallet. The company has previously partnered with Scytáles on an EUDI Wallet age verification project, linking its enterprise identity products to the policy-driven wallet ecosystem developing across Europe.
