IDEMIA Public Security will begin issuing new enhanced-security driver’s licenses and identification cards for the State of Texas starting August 18, 2025, building on the company’s extensive experience deploying secure identity credentials across multiple U.S. states. The initiative follows IDEMIA’s successful rollout of digital driver’s licenses in Arkansas and similar programs in other jurisdictions.
The new credentials will be manufactured using tamper-resistant polycarbonate, a durable material that meets American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) standards. A notable design change includes replacing the traditional gold star indicating REAL ID compliance with a black, laser-engraved star in the upper right corner. The modification comes as states across the country work to meet REAL ID compliance requirements ahead of the May 2025 deadline.
The enhanced security features integrate laser engraving and tactile elements to protect personal information, prevent counterfeiting, and improve readability and usability. These advanced features represent the latest evolution in physical credential security, complementing IDEMIA’s growing portfolio of digital identity solutions, including mobile driver’s licenses that have been implemented in several states.
