Malaysia has welcomed its first AI-powered digital bank with the official launch of Ryt Bank on August 26, 2025, marking a significant milestone in the country’s ongoing digital banking transformation. The new financial institution represents a joint venture between YTL Group and Sea Limited, integrating artificial intelligence technology with Malaysian languages and cultural elements. The launch follows Bank Negara Malaysia’s recent push for AI adoption in the banking sector, which has already demonstrated success in preventing fraud.

The bank’s core technology, Ryt AI, is powered by ILMU, Malaysia’s first domestically developed large language model. The AI banking assistant provides multilingual support in English, Bahasa Malaysia, and Manglish, with Mandarin language capabilities scheduled for implementation in September 2025. The AI system facilitates customer service interactions and handles banking transactions including funds transfers and bill payments, supporting Malaysia’s broader initiatives to digitize financial services.

Ryt Bank’s savings account offers a base interest rate of 3 percent per annum, with customers eligible for an additional 1 percent bonus interest on the first RM20,000 deposited in “Save Pockets,” bringing the total to 4 percent per annum. The bonus interest promotion runs through November 30, 2025, or until total deposits reach RM1 billion. Interest calculations occur daily and are credited once the accrued amount reaches RM0.01.

The bank’s Visa-powered All-in-One Ryt Card provides unlimited 1.2 percent cashback on international transactions, with foreign transaction fees waived until November 30, 2025. Customers receive immediate access to a virtual debit card upon registration, followed by a complimentary physical card. The digital-first approach matches the growing trend of virtual payment solutions in Southeast Asia, where financial institutions are increasingly adopting innovative payment technologies.

Additional services include Ryt PayLater, a Buy Now, Pay Later feature extending credit limits up to RM1,499 with zero interest for the initial month, requiring no documentation for eligible users. The bank implements comprehensive security measures including biometric login, multi-layered encryption, and real-time fraud alerts, operating under Bank Negara Malaysia’s license with PIDM protection up to RM250,000 per depositor. These security features complement Malaysia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen digital identity verification across financial services.

“By combining homegrown AI with the values and diversity of our people, we have created a bank Malaysians can proudly call their own – one that speaks our languages, understands our culture and sets a new standard for how banking should feel,” said Datuk Seri Yeoh Seok Hong, Managing Director of YTL Power International.

The bank’s launch includes promotional offerings such as rewards up to RM5 for new users who use Ryt AI for transactions, complimentary Ryt Card issuance for a limited period, and availability on both iOS and Android platforms. The digital banking initiative is part of Malaysia’s broader digital transformation strategy, which includes the upcoming launch of the MyGOV Beta platform for centralized government services.
