Texas has expanded its digital services platform, Texas by Texas (TxT), to include online boat registration renewals and driver’s license upgrades. The enhancement, announced October 14, 2025, allows residents to manage multiple state services through a unified account system, building upon the state’s broader digital identity initiatives that include IDEMIA’s enhanced-security driver’s licenses launched earlier this year.
The platform now enables users to upgrade from a learner license to a provisional license digitally, eliminating the previous requirement for in-person visits. The system also facilitates boat registration management, additional ID card orders, and replacement of lost registration decals or ID cards. The digital transformation comes as Texas continues to modernize its identity verification systems, including the recent implementation of enhanced security features in physical ID cards.
Texas Chief Information Officer Amanda Crawford noted that since its public launch in 2022, TxT has attracted more than 10.8 million users who have created accounts on the platform. The adoption rate represents significant progress in the state’s digital transformation efforts, particularly given the increasing focus on secure digital identity verification.
The expansion marks a collaborative effort between the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Department of Parks and Wildlife. The digital assistant platform consolidates various state services into a single online interface, streamlining administrative processes for residents while maintaining robust security measures to protect user data.
The development supports Texas’s ongoing digital transformation initiatives, which include enhancing broadband access and deploying new technology solutions across state services. The digital evolution comes at a crucial time when states nationwide are strengthening their cybersecurity measures, particularly in light of recent phishing campaigns targeting DMV services.
TxT’s user base of 10.8 million accounts demonstrates substantial adoption of digital government services among Texas residents since the platform’s introduction three years ago. The system continues to evolve with additional features and capabilities to serve the state’s population of approximately 30 million residents, while maintaining compliance with federal REAL ID standards and emerging digital identity technologies.
