Truecaller has unveiled a new AI-powered caller ID system that delivers real-time context and intent analysis for incoming calls. The enhanced system processes billions of daily signals from calls, messages, and user feedback globally to provide dynamic contextual information beyond basic name identification. The launch comes as Truecaller recently reached over 400 million monthly active users on Android and continues expanding its presence in key markets like the Middle East and Africa.
The upgraded system incorporates proactive scam detection capabilities that can identify potentially suspicious numbers before they are widely reported by the community. For business calls, the AI categorizes them into specific types such as Delivery, Customer Support, or Insurance. The system also generates instant AI-powered summaries of user comments about phone numbers during incoming calls, allowing recipients to make informed decisions about call legitimacy. The advancement follows Truecaller’s earlier rollout of its “Secure Calls” anti-spoofing feature for business users in India.
“People hesitate to answer unknown calls because they lack context and in today’s world, context is everything,” said Rishit Jhunjhunwala, Truecaller’s Global CEO. “Truecaller was built to solve this: not just to identify who’s calling, but to help you understand why. Is it someone from your network, a delivery, a business or a scam? Our AI uses real-time data and contextual signals to give you clarity the moment your phone rings, turning uncertainty into informed choice.”
The technological advancement represents a shift from traditional caller ID systems that rely on static databases or periodic telecom updates. The AI system continuously adapts to emerging fraud patterns, communication trends, and user behavior globally, processing billions of signals daily to maintain current protection. The development comes as phone networks worldwide are implementing their own AI-powered scam prevention systems to combat increasingly sophisticated fraud attempts.
In 2024, Truecaller has identified over 56 billion spam and fraud calls, amid global scam-related losses exceeding an estimated $1.03 trillion. The company has also introduced an AI-powered call screening assistant for iPhone users on iOS 18.2 and above, which uses machine learning and speech-to-text technology to interact with callers and assist users in call management decisions. The iOS expansion represents a significant step for Truecaller, which has traditionally maintained a stronger presence on Android platforms.
