Pakistan’s National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) is implementing new digital services for pensioners, building upon its recent digital identity initiatives. The latest development focuses on improving pension management efficiency and transparency through digital transformation. The initiative includes Pakistan’s first fully digital pension system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and a new online verification feature for pensioners nationwide.

The Ehsaas e-Pension System, approved by KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, will commence operations on January 1, 2026, with an official launch scheduled for January 15, 2026. The system connects NADRA, the Accountant General Office, and banking institutions to enable direct pension payments to retirees’ accounts, marking a significant advancement in the region’s digital governance infrastructure.

The new system delivers fully paperless pension management through a secure web-based dashboard. Pension cases can be filed online up to six months before retirement, with digital document scanning and uploading capabilities. The platform features automated task management, system-generated retirement orders, and legally valid digital signatures. Pension payments are processed within 2-4 weeks, significantly reducing the previous timeline of several months.

“This is a true paperless system designed to ensure transparency, accountability, and ease for our employees,” said Chief Minister Gandapur. “Guided by the vision of Chairman Imran Khan, the provincial government is taking concrete steps to transform Khyber Pakhtunkhwa into a truly Digital KP.”

NADRA is also launching an online “Proof of Life” feature through the Pak Identity mobile application. The feature addresses challenges faced by elderly pensioners who often experience difficulties with fingerprint verification, allowing them to confirm their living status without visiting physical offices, similar to successful implementations in other countries like Namibia’s biometric pensioner verification system.

Additional service improvements include an expansion of NADRA service counters in Karachi from 359 to 550 locations. The authority has also implemented a digital payment system for government services, incorporating QR code-based payments for identity cards and passports, further expanding upon NADRA’s recent digital service enhancements.

The system enables real-time monitoring of departmental performance through a dashboard accessible to senior officials, including the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, and Finance Secretary. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s implementation represents the first fully digital pension system in Pakistan, building upon the province’s previous digitization of 36 citizen services.
