Syniverse has announced its participation in the GSMA Open Gateway initiative, a global program designed to standardize and simplify enterprise access to mobile network capabilities. The initiative, which includes 73 of the world’s largest mobile network operators representing approximately 80 percent of global mobile connections, aims to make mobile networks more accessible to developers and businesses through standardized APIs. The expansion follows recent momentum from the initiative, including major telecommunications providers in Vietnam joining the program to enhance their digital security infrastructure.

The GSMA Open Gateway program introduces common network APIs that streamline how organizations interact with mobile operator infrastructure. These APIs enable capabilities such as device location, SIM swap detection, number verification, and quality on demand, which can be used for authentication, fraud prevention, and customer engagement purposes. The standardization of these APIs has already shown promising results, with Motive and Telefónica recently demonstrating successful phone authentication without SMS using the initiative’s Number Verification API.

“Joining GSMA Open Gateway positions Syniverse to give enterprises direct, programmatic access to mobile network capabilities that have traditionally required deeper network integration,” said Nathan Robbins, Vice President of Go-to-Market Strategy and Alliances at Syniverse. “As AI-driven services place new demands on connectivity, our role in this initiative allows customers to integrate with mobile infrastructure in a way that is faster, more secure, and built for scale.”

As a channel partner in the initiative, Syniverse brings over 30 years of experience in communications technology advancement. The company will help expand awareness of open network APIs and enable businesses to develop and deliver digital services with enhanced speed, security, and scalability. The expertise is particularly valuable as the industry faces increasing challenges from rising SIM swap attacks and identity fraud.

The initiative specifically addresses the increasing demands of emerging technologies such as 5G and artificial intelligence, facilitating seamless user experiences and secure, scalable services. Through standardized APIs, enterprises can now access mobile network capabilities that previously required complex network integration. The standardization has already led to significant developments, including Smart Communications becoming the first Philippine telco to receive GSMA Open Gateway API certification, demonstrating the initiative’s growing global impact.
